In this Sin and Magic book review I am sharing my thoughts on the second book in the Demigod of San Francisco series by K.F. Breene. As per usual, I will keep spoiler to a minimum but there still may be a few smaller spoilers.
“Sometimes when people talk, I accidentally stop listening. My mind is a more interesting place to be.”K.F. Breene, Sin and Magic
This series had been on my TBR list for a while before I picked it up to start reading it. I’ve been extremely happy with the series so far. The entire series is a Kindle Unlimited series and it is fantastic. This is one of those series I will likely be buying physical copies of for my shelves.
Since we don’t always get trigger warnings on books I like to give trigger warnings in my reviews. This can help people avoid certain triggers that could hurt their mental well being.
Possible Triggers in this book are:
- Sexually Explicit Scenes
For a list of the triggers I look for you can check out this link here. This may or may not be a complete list of triggers for this book, I do my best to make sure I mark anything that could be a potential trigger but I may accidentally miss triggers.
Synopsis and Author
Alexis has just accepted a job with demigod Kieran to help his mother’s spirit to find peace in her death. The job comes with some pretty excellent perks but also an entire team of people that all have different personalities. She’s going to learn about her powers and find a way to complete this job.
Kieran convinced Alexis to take the job he’s offered but he knows that once the job is complete he won’t be able to let her go. Additionally, he has to try to keep Alexis safe from his demigod father, Valens, so he doesn’t try to use her as a weapon.
K.F. Breene brings us a fantastic series following a loyal team of people looking to make magical San Francisco a better place. She brings us into this magical world with characters she will have you falling for quickly.
Sin and Magic Reading Experience
Again we are in San Francisco split between the magical, non magical, and neutral zone of this setting. We continue to follow the points of view of Alexis and Kieran as they hunt down the missing skin of Kieran’s mother.
Sin and Magic is another winner from K.F. Breene. The book moves at a steady pace with heart stopping scenes, hilarious characters, continued tension between our two characters, and a story that will leave you wanting more.
The ebook version of this book is about 425 pages with 41 chapters. I read the book in about 6 hours so it doesn’t take long to read. Luckily the cliffhangers with these books don’t leave you dying to know what happens left, it just makes you look forward to the next book while feeling completion of the current.
The story is pretty easy to read but filled with world building and character development that keeps you hooked. This author does a great job delivering a story that isn’t completely predictable and will leave you feeling good about the ending.
Sin and Magic Book Review
Once again Alexis shines as a main character. She is relatable, funny, protective, and beautifully kind even though she’s gone through a lot in her life. I love seeing her growth.
I really like Kieran. We get to see more about how he is as a person in this book and I freaking love it. Plus the spicy scenes are chef’s kiss.
I will live and die for Bria. I don’t know if I want to be her best friend or if I want to be her. She’s witty, sarcastic, fearless, and a beautifully weird woman. I cannot get enough of Bria.
I would like to know where I can find The Six in real life. Big protective teddy bears are so my type and bonus, they cook. I need these men in my life ASAP.
Frank once again tops the list as my favorite spirit in the series. He’s that old guy that you can sit down and talk for hours over breakfast at the local diner. I love Frank even if he’s old fashioned.
Finally, I have someone to not like and that’s Valens. He’s just a horrible human being with an ego that needs to be absolutely destroyed. I dislike this man.
K.F. Breene does a great job of world building. I love her style of writing as well as the characters she’s given us. Again, I have to mention how brilliantly written certain spying scenes were done in this book. It left me on the edge of my sofa, screaming at my book, and in an almost panic for some of my favorite characters.
If you were a fan of City of Thorns by CN Crawford this would likely be a great book for you. Low fantasy based in San Francisco with magic and amazing characters. It’s a great easy read for after finishing an in depth epic fantasy.
Before I rate this book I want to give you a bit of background about what my rankings mean. I typically read books that I check out through the Libby app with my local library or through Kindle Unlimited.
I rarely buy ebooks unless they are cheaply priced or on sale. I also very rarely buy physical copies of books. I’m a bit of a minimalist so I have to absolutely adore a book to buy a physical copy that will be proudly displayed in my home.
So my ranking system is as follows:
- 5 Stars equals I am buying a physical copy of this book. I will read this book at least 10 more times, it is the best ever.
- 4 stars equals a great book. I might buy an ebook version when it’s on sale so that I can re-read it at least one more time.
- 3 stars equals a good book. I likely won’t read again but I appreciate the story.
- 2 stars equals “Meh.” I will not read this book again, it had a lot of problems and I did not care for it.
- 1 star equals a bad book. I barely finished this book and I will never recommend anyone waste valuable book reading time on this book.
- 0 stars is a did not finish book. I will never finish that book and it is banished.
Sin and Magic gets 5 stars from me. I was laughing, there were heart stopping intense scenes, and there were great steamy scenes as well. In fact I would give this a 3 out of 5 for spice. It was a fantastic book that I could not put down and had me reaching for the next just so I could get more of these characters.
- I have fallen in love with these characters.
- Again K.F. Breene knocks the world building out of the park.
- The heart stopping scenes had me gasping and yelling.
- The “letting her go so she can be safe” trope is not my favorite.
Final Thoughts on Sin and Magic
This book solidified my desire to read the rest of this series. The characters are fantastic, the setting is interesting, and the plots and scenes are perfect. I’m really looking forward to the next book in the series.
