With the popularity of my last cake decorating post I decided it was necessary to find even more spectacular cakes. Similarly, to that last post, I found more how to guides with decorating and have put them all right here.
This time I gathered a few more difficult but not out of the realm of possibility for a beginner cake decorator. These cakes are stunning and will impress anyone who sees them. Additionally, you can use pretty much any cake recipe.

As with all cake decorating practice makes perfect. You can always make a bunch of mini cakes to try out these techniques and practice them. Additionally, practice will make everything a lot easier when you go to prepare a cake for the main event.
Finally, you should absolutely experiment with these cake decorating ideas. Mix and match decorating techniques. For instance, the watercolor cake with the feather brushstroke pieces would look absolutely amazing.

While this cake looks complicated it really is simple to create and do. It’s perfect for most types of holiday events.
Wide Eyed Owl
This owl cake is easy to make and perfect for a kids birthday or a birthday for a friend who loves owls. Switch up the color of the owl to a white with black spots and you have a Harry Potter themed cake too.

Marble Frosting Cake
Marble cakes are absolutely beautiful. While easy in theory it takes some practice to get the temperature and pour just right. So be prepared to make a couple of cakes to get this technique down.
Chocolate Cake Wrap
This is an easy cake to make but it takes an extremely gentle hand. It’s a great design for an adult birthday celebration. It looks sophisticated and artful.
Decorating cakes is creating art and this cake combines the world of painting and cake decorating. It’s a simple design that with a little bit of practice is absolutely beautiful.

While it might be quite a bit of work the hydrangea cake is fun to create. Use cupcakes instead to create an illusion of a big hydrangea bush for your next get together.
Rainbow Swirl Buttercream Frosting
This is a fun one to create. It’ll take a bit of practice so make a few extra cupcakes to practice on. Use galaxy colors for a fun look or keep it simple with just a couple of colors.
