Do you remember when we were kids and we used get a sheet cake for our birthdays? You know, if we were lucky. Well now we live in the world of Pinterest and a birthday cake for kids is about as magnificent as a wedding cake.

Of course this is just the older generation complaining about things younger generations get, mainly because I’m jealous. Additionally, it won’t stop me from creating a masterpiece of a cake, or at least attempting to before I go and buy a cake from the store, for my kids birthday.

I’ll be the first to admit that one or two of these cakes are more for the parents than for the kids, ahem … Tardis Cake … but your kids will still love eating all of the sweet goodness.

I highly recommend testing out your cake decorating skills in a smaller version well in advance. Cupcakes are a great way to get used to piping icing and doing small designs too. It’ll get you in the habit on how much pressure you should use on your piping bag.
