When it comes to cooking I will always prefer the dump and cook method of slow cooker and Instant Pot cooking. I do not want to spend loads of time in the kitchen hovering over a hot stove. This Crock Pot Onion Pork Roast is the easiest dish to make.

I was running low on a lot of spices one day and I decided to try using a onion soup mix packet on my slow cooker pork roast. It absolutely ruined pork roast for us because this is the only way we like to eat pork roast now.

Great Sides For This Meal

Mashed potatoes are pretty much a must for this meal. They are just a perfect side. I also prefer corn with the meal but as you can see in the pictures we ate peas instead on this night. We must have been out of corn.

Fresh green beans or brussel sprouts baked with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper to taste are another great side for this recipe.

If it’s summer a good side salad and some roasted potatoes or potato smash would go well. Additionally, a sweet potato will add a nice sweetness to the dish.

Why Apple Juice

Growing up we always had pork chops with apple sauce. As usual the sweetness with the savory is always a great blend.

The apple juice is going to add a bit of sweetness to mellow out the onion. If you don’t have apple juice in the house and don’t want to purchase it I recommend cutting the seasoning packet to half and using water.

You could also use water and just add an apple cored and sliced. This will still give you some of that sweetness that’s needed for this dish.

This takes 3 minutes to prep and then cooks all day. I have this cooking on low for about 6 hours, but I work at home so I start it a little later. If you work out of the home this will still stay moist and just melt in your mouth if it cooks for a little over 8 hours.

If you have one of the fancy slow cookers that you can set timers for that works too. I’m still working with a manual slow cooker.

Slow Cooker Pork Roast

This pork roast is so easy to make and it’s perfect for those busy weeknights. It’s a good hearty dish that will feed at least 6.

As far as leftovers go, shred the rest and add barbecue sauce to it then store in the fridge. You can use that pulled pork for wraps and sandwiches for lunches the next day. We always have leftovers with this recipe and turning it into pulled pork is typically what we do with the leftovers.
