Brutal Birthright Series Review

Brutal Birthright Series Review - Brutal Birthright Series by Sophie Lark - Mafia Romance and Dark Romance Series Recommendation
PinterestLinkedInReddit

In this post I am going to do a Brutal Birthright Series Review. This series is six standalone books written by Sophie Lark and I’ve seen a lot of recommendations to read. I currently have read two of the six books and I will be adding the additional reviews as I finish them.

As usual I will try to keep spoilers to a minimum but like with any review I write there may still be a few small spoilers.

The Brutal Birthright series is a mafia romance series based in Chicago following the Irish, Italian, Polish, and Russian crime families. This books have sexually explicit scenes in them as well as violence so if you are not ok with these, this may not be the series for you.

Trigger Warnings

Since we don’t always get trigger warnings on books I like to give trigger warnings in my reviews. This can help people avoid certain triggers that could hurt their mental well being. Please keep in mind that these triggers will be updated for the entire series as I complete each book.o

Possible Triggers in this book are:

  • Alcohol
  • Amputation
  • Assault
  • Attempted Murder
  • Blood
  • Death
  • Fire
  • Gun Violence
  • Hostages
  • Kidnapping
  • Murder
  • Needles
  • Poisoning
  • Profanity
  • Sexually Explicit Scenes
  • Violence

For a list of the triggers I look for you can check out this link here. This may or may not be a complete list of triggers for this book, I do my best to make sure I mark anything that could be a potential trigger but I may accidentally miss triggers.

Brutal Birthright Reading Order

This is a completed series available on Kindle Unlimited. So far the books only take about 6-8 hours to read so you could probably binge this entire series. I personally prefer to read books like these in order.

The Brutal Birthright Reading Order is:

  1. Brutal Prince
  2. Stolen Heir
  3. Savage Lover
  4. Bloody Heart
  5. Broken Vow
  6. Heavy Crown

Brutal Prince Book Review

In Brutal Prince two families decide to enter into a marriage pact, Callum Griffin, next in line for the Irish Mafia and running for an alderman position in the city, and Aida Gallo, favorite daughter of the Italian Boss, are set to get married. They hate each other and Aida would prefer to kill Callum.

“If you EVER talk to my wife like that again, I’ll empty that clip in your chest.”

Sophie Lark, Brutal Prince

Brutal Prince is an excellent enemies to lovers book about two warring families. Aida is a kickass female main character, Callum is a total stiff and Aida keeps throwing him for a loop. I laughed a lot with this book, there were great action scenes, and it was a fun easy read.

This book is about 376 pages so I read it in about 7 hours. It has a happy ending with no cliffhangers. I love most of the characters in this book. Aida’s brothers are amazing, I’m looking forward to each of their stories too. I’ll give Brutal Prince 4 stars and 3 peppers.

Stolen Heir Book Review

In Stolen Heir, Mikolaj is the newly crowned boss of the Polish Mafia and he’s getting his revenge on the families that killed his father. His revenge comes in the form of stealing the youngest daughter of the Griffin family. While the Griffins and the Gallo’s try to find Nessa though her kidnapper is getting to know her. He thought she was just an innocent ballerina, turns out she’s so much more than he expected.

“I see her, and she sees me. I was death, and she was life. I thought I’d had stolen her, brought her down to the underworld. All the while she was waking me up. Stirring the blood in my veins. Breathing air into my lungs.”

Sophie Lark, Stolen Heir

Stolen Heir is another enemies to lovers but this time we get a bit of Stockholm syndrome. I didn’t think I was going to like Nessa because she is extremely innocent and not really a fighter. However, she has these amazing strengths that you don’t see coming. Miko’s story though is a fantastic one and I loved seeing his growth as a character.

Klara is a fantastic side character and I loved the dynamic between her and Nessa. In a lot of kidnapping stories there is typically this animosity between the person taking care of the captive and the captive. However, this story doesn’t really have that between Klara and Nessa. I really appreciated that.

This book is 430 pages, so it took me between 7 and 8 hours to read it. Again we have a happy ending and no cliffhangers and I think that’s what I like most about this series so far. I can read one of the books and then read a different series without needing to do a big reread or refresher. Stolen heir gets 4 stars and 3 peppers.

Savage Lover Book Review

Savage Lover follows Nero and Camille. Camille works in her father’s garage and lives in the apartment above it. When she gets pulled over and takes the heat for her brother a cop wants her to become a CI for him. Nero keeps popping up around Camille and seems to be taking an interest in her too. Now she has to work for her father’s mechanic shop, spy on a violent drug dealer, and deal with the son of a notorious mob boss.

“I’ll put him in the ground if he threatens you.”

Sophie Lark, Savage Lover

Savage Lover is a slow burn mafia romance filled with action, fast cars, crime and a family that will do anything it can to protect each other. I was really excited to read Nero’s story based on his character in the previous books. Sadly I was a bit disappointed. There wasn’t a lot of action, the interactions between the two main characters were bland, and Nero’s character was not as dark and twisty as I had wished he would be.

This book is 412 pages and it took about 7 hours to read total. Again there is a happy ending with no cliffhangers but I found it to lack a lot of what could have been fantastic scenes. There could have been so much more here and I wished there was. I gave the book 3 stars and 2 peppers. It was a good read but I think there could have been a lot more to it.

Bloody Heart Book Review

In Bloody Heart we will finally get Dante’s story which I am absolutely looking forward to. Dante is the enforcer and the leader of the Gallo Brothers so it’ll be interesting to see how his story plays out.

Bloody Heart

Broken Vow Book Review

In Broken Vow we get Riona Griffin’s story. Now Riona has not really been shown in a positive light. People really think that she’s bitchy. However, I am looking forward to getting a look into Riona and seeing things from her perspective.

Broken Vow

Heavy Crown Book Review

The final book, Heavy Crown, is focused on Sebastian Gallo. Sebastian’s story is one we see evolving since the first book so I am personally looking forward to seeing what happens with him. Sophie promises a lot of twists in this one so I am really looking forward to it.

Brutal Birthright Series Review and Rating

As of right now I’ve only read two of the 6 books and like I said I will be updating this post as we go on. With a series like this I give ratings based on the series as a whole. As of right now this series gets 4 stars. It’s a great, fun read with action, suspense, and plenty of spice. This rating could go up or down based on the next 4 books in the series.

As I have already done though, I will rate each book individually and update trigger warnings as needed.

If you like this series you may also like The Miles High Club Series.
