Today I am recommending trigger heavy spicy books. I’m the type of reader who doesn’t have a lot of triggers or doesn’t mind reading the few triggers I do have. I do understand the importance of trigger warnings which is why most of my reviews and lists often give trigger warnings.
When I first decided to do book reviews here on the blog I wanted to give a place where triggers could be easily found. When I include triggers they can be something as small as a mention or as large as a scene because if it’s a trigger it doesn’t have to be large for it to affect someone.
I also realize that for some of us triggers are just a selling point for us to want to read a book. That’s who this list is for. I won’t be listing all the triggers for each of the books in this list but I will be sharing a few of them. I believe all of the books have trigger warning pages with a link that will list the trigger warnings directly from the author. If I have a full review I will link that which will have a list of triggers that I spotted while reading the book.
Trigger Heavy Spicy Books
As of writing this book I have 11 books for this list. However, I am positive I will have more before long and I will likely add more. Each book will have a brief synopsis along with a short review with my stars, peppers, and tissues.
Royals of Forsyth University by Angel Lawson and Samantha Rue
At Forsyth U the fraternity’s are royalty and each year the royals choose a woman to live with them. Those women are protected by them and in some cases they are even controlled by them, that is until the women flip the script on them.
The Royals of Forsyth University series so far is 5 books with the 6th coming in October 2022. There are three books for each of the fraternities at Forsyth U so I read the first three books and I’ll read the next three in October when the sixth book releases. This series does have Dub-Con as well as SA.
That being said I gave all three of the Lords books 5 stars and 4 peppers. Did I think the character made the right decision in the beginning of the book? No I do not, but she made that decision and had to deal with it. Some of the side characters made this book that much better though.

Gravity by Sara Cate
After the death of her sister and her sister’s boyfriend, Zara’s life spiraled. She’s working at a local strip club and she rarely thinks about the days they spent hanging on the private island owned by the Wilde Boys. The last thing she was expecting was to be found by Nash and his father Alistair. After an offer she can’t refuse from Alistair she returns to the island to help fix what’s been broken by the death of their loved ones.
There are two books in this series but this book is extremely taboo with plenty of triggers for those who like their books to be filled with them. While I preferred the second book in this series you must read this one to understand what happens. This series does have Dub-Con and a taboo relationship.
I gave Gravity 4 stars and 4 peppers. Personally I was extremely uncomfortable with aspects of the forbidden relationship but Free Fall, the second book, made it worth it. I know there were a lot of people who absolutely loved this book, I feel the second book made this book better.
Kings of Quarantine by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti
Tatum just got dropped off at a private school just as the Hades Virus is sweeping the planet. When a hit piece blames the release and spread of the Hades Virus on Tatum’s father she’s stuck at the school trying to figure out how she can prove his innocence. To make matters worse she becomes the focus of the three kings who rule over the school.
There is a reason why we call Caroline and Susanne the Twisted Sisters. Their books are constantly filled with triggers. Plus no one writes Bully Romance quite like the Twisted Sisters. Being a Bully Romance there are intense bullying scenes as well as stalking, violence, and a pandemic/plague.
I gave Brutal Boys of Everlake Prep series 5 stars and 3 peppers. I have a full series review with all of the triggers in this series that I found. You can read my Kings of Quarantine Series Review here.
Reading Order:
Dead Men Walking by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti
Brooklyn is a homeless girl with psychotic tendencies who’s been through a lot and has been kidnapped by a ruthless gang and put right into human trafficking. Niall is a homicidal maniac for the Irish Mafia. Mateo is the caged prisoner of Niall who rarely speaks. Jack is a huge psychotic man who only speaks one syllable words. They will hunt down the ring that tried to sell Brooklyn and take care of all of their enemies.
I absolutely love The Dead Men Walking duet. I laughed a lot, there were massive “what the fuck” plot twists, and the writing was brilliant. Each of the characters are so unique in their personalities and the authors are absolutely fantastic at world building and writing action packed books that you can’t put down. Violence, human trafficking, and sexually explict scenes are the main triggers for this duet.
I gave this series 5 stars and 5 peppers. You can read my full Dead Men Walking Duet Review here. I highly recommend this series but it is interconnected with the Brutal Boys of Everlake Prep and the Harlequin Crew series.

The Ritual by Shantel Tessier
The Lords rule Barrington University but no one really knows what the Lords do. When Blakely finds out her boyfriend is cheating on her she agrees to become his enemies chosen one. Ryat is charged with making Blakely his chosen one but soon she becomes his obsession and he’s determined to make her his forever.
The Ritual is one of those books you either love or hate. I’ll share an honest opinion on why this is. I’m fairly certain that most of the lower star reviews are because this book is a dark romance. There is CNC, breath play, and a few other dark themes that are controversial. I personally love dark romance and I felt the story and this book were well done.
I gave this book 5 stars and 4.5 peppers. I felt there was a decent mix of spice and plot and that the plot was really good. It was a unique story, with hot scenes, and plenty of twists that would leave you guessing.
Den of Vipers by K.A. Knight
Roxy’s father just sold her to the Vipers to pay off their debt. Ryder, Kenzo, Garrett, and Diesel own this town and now they own her. Roxy has other plans and she’s going to make them regret taking her for her father’s debt.
Den of Vipers is a why choose dark romance with loads of dark kinks. Once again this is a book where people either love it or hate it. This was one of my first dark romance books so right off the bat there were moments I wasn’t expecting.
I gave this book 4 stars and 5 peppers. It’s extremely spicy with a smaller plot outside of the relationship between the characters. It was an entertaining read that I wouldn’t mind reading again in the future. You can read my full Den of Vipers book review here.
Four Horsemen by Sarah Bailey
10 years ago Scarlett was kidnapped, now the Four Horsemen have a chance to get her back, the only problem is, she doesn’t remember them. Drake, Prescott, West, and Francis built their business to rescue her and now that she’s in their grasp they can’t trust her. They have to break her in order to keep her.
I absolutely loved the Four Horsemen series and added a bunch of Sarah Bailey books to my TBR directly after reading it. I cried, laughed, and enjoyed the premise of the story a lot. Plus there is a lot of spice in this why choose romance.
I gave the series 5 stars and 5 spice. There are a lot of kinks and triggers in this book so please check all trigger warnings before reading. Dub-Con, blood play, knife play, and bondage are in this story. Read with caution.
Reading Order:
Vicious Lost Boys by Nikki St. Crowe
On their 18th birthday every Darling daughter gets taken away by Peter Pan. Sometimes they are gone for a day, other times it’s longer, but every time they come back they are not the same. Now it’s Winnie’s turn to go with Peter but when she arrives in Neverland things aren’t exactly what they seem and she’s caught the attention of the Lost Boys.
This series is dark and kinky as hell. It is also a quick read and with this series I recommend walking into it knowing it’s a short fun read. There are a lot of triggers including past child abuse, drugs, and extremely explicit sceens in this why choose romance.
I gave the Vicious Lost Boys series 4 stars and 5 peppers. This is a dark adult kink retelling of Peter Pan so I highly recommend checking out the triggers before reading it. Don’t think too much when you read it, I don’t feel it’s meant to be some deep read.
Reading Order:
Legend of the Nine Realms by Amelia Hutchins
Aria and her sisters are looking for her twin and her last known location is Haven Falls. They didn’t realize that there is someone new in charge there and he’s about to make their lives hell. He’s got revenge to seek and Aria just wants to find some answers.
Legend of the Nine Realms series is unfinished and I don’t believe we have dates yet for the next book in the series but it will take you for a wild ride. There are a lot of triggers with intense bullying, miscarriage, kidnapping, and sexually explicit scenes.
I gave this series 5 stars and 4 peppers. This series is an epic fantasy romance book with a plot that keeps you guessing. The world building and character development are top notch and it’s a great read, if you can stand cliffhanger endings that leave you reaching for the next book.
Reading Order:
Deliciously Dark Fairytales by K.F. Breene
Finley is trying to save her family and village from a deadly disease that’s been spreading for years thanks to a curse. The only flower that can cure the disease though is inside the forbidden forest where a beast stalks. They beast is more than what the people of the village think he is and he thinks she’s the key to fixing the curse.
The Deliciously Dark Fairytales series is a fun series that you can’t take seriously. K.F. Breene is fantastic about creating characters that are hilarious and unique. This series is smutty and hilarious with twists you don’t see coming.
I gave this series 4 stars and 5 peppers due to the abundance of orgies that take place in the book, not between the main characters. There are a lot of different kinks in this series that might make some readers uncomfortable, please check all triggers before reading.

Dark Romance Triggers
As I’ve mentioned a few times in this post some of these books contain CNC which stands for Consent Non Consent and Dub Con which means Dubious Consent. These are not for everyone and I try to make sure I warn people who may not like this type of content.
That being said, all comments on my blog are monitored and approved by me. I will not post any comments condemning CNC or Dub Con. Many readers who have gone through sexual assault read books with these two topics because in the end the character who was assaulted is reclaiming her power. How someone finds strength to heal is a personal matter that doesn’t deserve judgment. We do not yuk how someone heals from their own trauma.
I hope this list helps you find your next spicy book that has loads of triggers. Like I said in the beginning I intend on adding more books to this list as I read them so check back often.
