Dark Romance Book Recommendations - Strong Female Main Characters In Books - Book Recs for Fearless Women

Today I’m sharing my favorite fearless women in dark romance. As a blogger and a TikTok creator we all have to find interesting new things to share. On #booktok I usually let a sound inspire me.

I get the whole damsel in distress but I really do prefer women who would rather fight for themselves, even if that means stabbing a few people. Obviously I only mean this in fiction as violence in real life is unacceptable.

Dark Romance is one of the best places to find fearless women who aren’t afraid to fight their own battles. Or if they do have fear no one else sees it because they are good at hiding it. Most of these books are dark romance with explicit sex scenes, violence, and content that may be disturbing to others.

Let’s dive into my list of fearless women in dark romance.

The Death Club by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti

If you want to talk about authors who write some of the most badass female characters in the dark romance genre, Caroline and Susanne are it. They have some of the best characters that I’ve ever read so naturally they are going to top the list of fearless women in dark romance.

In The Death Club, Brooklyn has not had an easy life and to top it off she’s homeless during a pandemic that is sweeping the world. Next thing she knows is she’s being taken and put into a human trafficking ring when she’s to be sold as entertainment for disgusting people.

Sure she gets rescued by a man, but not before she kills several other men. Next we see this beautifully crazy woman become a killer that punishes rapists and commands three homicidal maniacs to help her take down human traffickers.

Wretched by Emily McIntire

Wretched is a standalone in Emily McIntire’s Never After series. It’s also the first book in the series to have a seriously psychotic badass female who isn’t afraid to take a few lives. With references to The Wizard of Oz this book is an absolutely amazing read.

Eveline is the villain in this story and we absolutely love her. She’s the brains and the power behind a criminal organization and she isn’t afraid to take lives and do what’s necessary to survive. Additionally, she’s ready to take on her family for the wrongs they committed against her and her sister.

Even the main male character can’t resist the need to bow before this queen and bend to her will. I loved seeing a female lead in a mafia family that scares the shit out of most of the men around her. It’s absolutely stunning.

Den Of Vipers by K.A. Knight

K.A. Knight gives us a main female character that isn’t afraid to fight back. Despite being taken by four hot men in payment for her father’s debt she still shows amazing strength and becomes a Queen. Den of Vipers is a reverse harem with extremely dark scenes that are not to everyone’s liking. Please check trigger warnings.

Roxy is a bar owner who knows how to defend herself, so when the Vipers try to have her kidnapped she is able to fight off who they sent pretty easily. They show up themselves to take her and find out first hand how much of a fighter she really is.

They may have stolen her and locked her away, but Roxy isn’t afraid to fight back and gain her freedom. She’s had to fight through most of her life and she isn’t going to stop now.

Dark Fae by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti

Once again the Twisted Sisters are giving us a badass female main character who is fearless and will stop at nothing to reach her goals. Even when that means going up against two rival gang leaders, a notorious thief, and a moody harpy

Elise goes undercover to find out who murdered her brother Gareth. The only clues she has is it’s the King at Aurora Academy. Too bad there are four kings and she has to find a way to break them all to get to the truth. She’s going up against things she’s never even seen before and the rabbit hole is deep when it comes to her brother’s life at Zodiac Academy.

Dark Fae is the start of the Ruthless Boys of the Zodiac. It’s a fantasy dark romance reverse harem so there are a lot of darker themes in this series. Check trigger warnings before reading it and be prepared to fall in love with these characters.

Forget-Me-Not Bombshell by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti

Anya is the daughter of a Russian Mob Boss and she’s being forced to marry the boss of the London Firm in order to bring peace and stop the Mafia Wars. Anya isn’t a meek woman though, she’d sooner slit someone’s throat then fall victim to the whims of men around her.

Anya is a fighter and she’s going up against London’s fiercest crime family. She might be forced to marry Danny but she’s not going to let him or anyone else dictate anything else about her life. She’s going to go after exactly what she wants and no one is going to get in her way.

Forget Me Not Bombshell is a dark romance reverse harem with a few darker scenes. It’s a part of the Mafia Wars series of standalone books based in one universe. As always, check the trigger warning before reading.

The Never King by Nikki St. Crowe

On their 18th birthday every Darling daughter is taken and when they return they aren’t the same. It’s no different for Wendy when Peter Pan comes to pick her up and take her to Neverland. He believes the secret to save Neverland is in the mind of the Darling daughters; she is dead set on not ending up like her mother.

Wendy is the type of character that will not put up with anyone’s shit. She has faced worse things in life than being kidnapped by the lost boys. She’ll find a way to defeat them and save her mind.

The Never King is a dark romance reverse harem retelling of Peter Pan. It’s the first book in the Vicious Lost Boys series. There are a lot of triggers in this series so please check the trigger warnings before reading.

Flames of Chaos by Amelia Hutchins

Aria is searching for her sister back in the human realm when the self-appointed King, Knox, makes it clear that her and her sisters are unwelcome. Aria won’t be scared off by him though and will do whatever she needs to do to save her family.

Aria is a sarcastic, witty, and vicious female main character. She shows very little fear throughout the series and isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty to save the ones she loves. Things aren’t always what they seem though and there are long lost secrets to uncover.

Legend of the Nine Realms series is a dark fantasy romance series that has a lot of sexually explicit scenes and violence. As always make sure you check the trigger warnings before reading.

Zodiac Academy by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti

If you are seeking out books that are filled with badass female main characters who aren’t afraid to stand up against the patriarchy, this is the series for you. The Twisted Sisters always deliver badass female characters that you will absolutely fall in love with.

Tory and Darcy are thrust into a world and a life that they had no idea even existed and now they have to figure out how to survive. While many aren’t happy about their return to their home they will find a way to face down an ultimate evil and win, hopefully.

Zodiac Academy isn’t as dark as some of the other books mentioned here, however, it will emotionally destroy you. It is a bully romance series with plenty of violence and sexually explicit scenes. Check your trigger warnings before picking up the series to read.

Fearless Women in Dark Romance

There are too many times in romance where the female main character is helpless and reliant on a man to save her. While sometimes that’s ok, I prefer a woman who isn’t willing to wait around for a man and will do the saving on her own, or at least try.

I love reading about badass female characters who are more likely to save themselves or the knight in shining armor than they are to be damsels who need saving. While we love our morally gray heroes sometimes it’s good to see a woman as a villain too.
