Twisted Series Review - Twisted Series by Ana Huang - Contemporary Romance Book Recommendations

Today I am doing a Twisted series review of Ana Huang’s four book series of standalone stories. It’s helpful to read the books in order due to some crossover within the storyline. I wouldn’t say it’s completely necessary though.

As always with my reviews, while I try to keep spoilers to a minimum, there may be a few small spoilers in the review. The Twisted series does have some triggers that you should be aware of before diving in so please check out the ones I list below. Finally, these books do contain sexually explicit scenes, if that is not your thing you will likely want to move on.

Trigger Warnings

Since we don’t always get trigger warnings on books I like to give trigger warnings in my reviews. This can help people avoid certain triggers that could hurt their mental well being.

Possible Triggers in this series are:

  • Abuse
  • Alcohol
  • Alcoholism
  • Anxiety
  • Assault
  • Attempted Murder
  • Death
  • Depression
  • Guns
  • Hospitalization
  • Hostages
  • Kidnapping
  • Profanity
  • Sexual Harassment
  • Sexually Explicit Scenes
  • Slut Shaming
  • Violence

For a list of the triggers I look for you can check out this link here. This may or may not be a complete list of triggers for this book, I do my best to make sure I mark anything that could be a potential trigger but I may accidentally miss triggers.

The Twisted Series Reading Order

While these books are stand alone I still recommend reading them in order because it helps to get a bit of background on supporting characters in each book. However, if a book has something that doesn’t quite interest you you can skip it and move on with the series fairly easily.

  1. Twisted Love
  2. Twisted Games
  3. Twisted Hate
  4. Twisted Lies

Twisted Love Book Review

Ava Chen is a college student with a past she can’t remember that still haunts her and a brother who is protective over her. Her brother asks Alex Volkov, his best friend, to move into his house next door to his sister to watch over her while he’s away. Ava thinks Alex may have a heart behind the walls he’s built up and tries to break through and Alex starts to feel something for the one person he shouldn’t.

Twisted Love is a brother’s best friend, forbidden love romance. There is violence in this book, along with kidnapping and hostages.

“Alex gripped my chin and brought my gaze to his. “What did I tell you? You’re mine, Sunshine. You’re never touching another man unless you want him six feet in the ground. So yes, we’re fucking exclusive.”

Ana Huang, Twisted Love

Right off the bat I liked the broody Alex and the happy free-spirited Ava. Though it was a lot of the supporting characters that really made this book. Ava’s friends are hilarious and they really made this book a lot of fun to read.

There are some darker elements in this book with regards to the characters past and how that plays out. I don’t want to give too much away and spoil the book but I would call this a suspenseful rom-com type of book. This book got 4 stars and 3 peppers.

Twisted Games Book Review

Bridget is a Princess who craves freedom to do what she wants. Her previous bodyguard worked with Bridget well but he’s left because his wife is having a child. Her new bodyguard, Rhys, is extremely serious about his job and he’s also extremely hot. She’s someone he can’t have but he wants to claim her anyways. He’s a forbidden desire she can’t have.

Twisted Games is a bodyguard forbidden romance. There is violence, gun violence, discussion of drug use and abuse as well.

“But first, I want to make one thing clear. From this point on, you’re mine. No other man touches you. If they do…” My fingers dug into her skin. “I know seventy-nine ways to kill a man, and I can make seventy of them look like an accident. Understand?”

Ana Huang, Twisted Games

I absolutely love Bridget as a character. She is smart, kind, stubborn, and doesn’t take herself all that seriously but can rise to any challenge and meet it head on. Rhys took some time to grow on me but once Bridget started to break through his walls I did eventually grow to like him.

Once again the supporting characters came in and made this book fantastic. However, at a certain point in this book it got a bit boring for me. Being a mood reader it could have just meant that my mood changed and it had nothing to do with the author or the story. I did eventually get through that part and I did like the way this story ended. This book got 4 stars and 3 peppers.

Twisted Hate

In Twisted Hate, Jules and Josh have hated each other since they’ve first met. He thinks she’s a bad influence on his sister Ava, she thinks he’s just a jerk. When she gets a job at the same clinic he volunteers at they are forced to put their hate aside.

Twisted Hate is a best friends brother enemies to lovers romance. There is violence, sexually explicit scenes, slut shaming and other triggers.

“I don’t know what you did to me, Red. But somehow, I went from wanting to kill you…to willing to kill for you.”

Ana Huang, Twisted Hate

I could not put this book down, I started it and read until it was finished, it was that good. I loved getting Jules backstory and finding out more about her. She still remains my favorite character of the entire series, from the very beginning I was looking forward to this book. I also enjoyed Josh’s story and how he’s dealing with the betrayal of his father and best friend from the first book.

Twisted Hate made me laugh and kept me hooked from the beginning. Ana Huang brought these characters to life and I became attached to Jules so I did shed a few tears and I did have moments where I was angry on behalf of Jules. I gave this book 5 stars, 3 peppers, and 1 tissue.

Twisted Lies

At the suggestion of her manager Stella needs to find a fake boyfriend to increase her following and engagement on social media. Enter Christian Harper, who agrees to a fake relationship since he needs someone to show up at events with him. Once Stella starts sharing photos of her new boyfriend though a stalker pops up to turn her life upside down. It’s a good think Christian is the CEO of a security company. Now Stella just has to make sure she doesn’t fall for her fake boyfriend.

Twisted Lies is a slow burn fake dating romance. There is violence, stalking, gun violence, and suicide mentions in this book.

“I would never make it to heaven, but that didn’t matter as long as she ruled beside me in hell. Stella was made to be my queen.”

Ana Huang, Twisted Lies

Yet again I could not put this book down until it was finished. Christian is an extremely interesting character and I loved how Ana Huang tied all four books together. I loved how Stella wasn’t some perfect Instagram influencer. She’s actually fairly introverted, has anxiety, and has a lot of growth in this book.

Again I laughed a lot with this book, the steamy scenes were fantastic, and I loved how we got a happy ending for all the characters in the series. I gave this book 5 stars and 3 peppers.

Twisted Series Review

So far I have to say that I am loving this series. While I had a bit of difficulty reading Twisted Games at a certain point I’m pretty positive that’s on me and not the author. Oftentimes circumstances around us can be so strong that it takes away from the stories we are trying to escape into.

That being said, I am looking forward to finishing this series and will update this post after each book.

If you like this series you will want to check out my Brutal Birthright series review here.
