Your green cleaning products aren’t all that safe to use. Not only are some of them unsafe for your children or animals, they aren’t even safe for the environment. Today I’m going to tell you about the actual green cleaning products you should be using.

As we became more aware of human effects on climate change we decided to start looking into household changes we could make. Part of this change was finding the best green cleaning products that actually live up to the name.

When I started this list of green cleaning products I had over 10 products that have been labeled green. That list is now narrowed down to 3 products. After researching the products extensively these three products show the most promise in being actually green.

In my research I’ve seen a lot of impostors and while I don’t want to call them out by name, cause I’m not about that, I am petty enough to say this. I see who the parent companies of some of the biggest green cleaning products donate to. If a parent company is donating money through a PAC to more than one climate change denier, I have a really hard time believing the products they sell are actually green.

Furthermore, through even more research the chemicals used in several popular “green” cleaning products aren’t safe at all.

Green cleaning is marketable, I get that I have to market my own business. However, marketable and lying about your “green” products are two different things.

I digress – today I really want to talk about the good green cleaning products that actually work. In addition to actual cleaning products I am also writing about green cleaning supplies as well. These supplies work to reduce the amount of waste in your home while still performing just as well as typical home cleaning supplies.

Best Green Cleaning Products

When you are looking for cleaning products that are green it’s helpful to look up who owns the company as well. Look up the back story, the ingredients, and where the company stands on matters of climate.

Don’t just take the CEO’s word for it either, find what PACs they have and where they donate money to. Find out who donates to the pac and what job titles they have. You’d be surprised how many PAC’s are formed by a companies higher ups and exactly how they don’t fight for what the company is saying they fight for.

Additionally, there is a difference between using natural products and a product being eco-friendly. One does not constitute another.

Fragrances for example do not need to be listed out, but most eco friendly companies use essential oils. If you really need to know what is in every product and can’t find the list don’t be afraid to ask someone at the company.

Also it helps to check for reviews on products on sites like Thrive Market or Amazon. These reviews are usually extremely honest and worth the look into.

When it comes to green cleaning products most people have their favorites and they will stick to those favorites. Ask friends, family, and even check Facebook for green cleaning groups to find the best products and get honest reviews.

Green Cleaning Products

Thrive Market

While their products might be few Thrive Market has some pretty great values as a whole. Their window cleaner leaves your window streak free and clean while not having artificial dyes or fragrances and being animal friendly.

They also have laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent, and dish soap. While we anxiously await for a multi purpose cleaner the dish soap works great on cleaning stains and food off your kitchen counters.

Thrive products are environmentally and socially friendly while still being affordable. What I love the most about Thrive Market is it’s like a grocery store online. You can find all of your needs in one store.

They even have the ability to search for Vegan products which made my life 10x easier when we made the switched to a plant based whole food lifestyle.

Better Life

While not as available in stores in every area Better Life products are an absolute win and worth an online order. Created by two dads, Better Life products are all natural and safe to use around kids and pets.

If your main concern is making sure you are using products that will keep your family safe this is the product to go with. The smell isn’t offensive and they have products for cleaning everything in your home.

I like that they have refillable options in both 1 and 5 gallons. I like buying in bulk because I almost never have to worry about running out of cleaning supplies when I least expect it.

A simple shelf set up in your basement or garage means you can have a place to store all your refills and stop wasting so much plastic. It also saves you money in the grand scheme of it all.

Ecos

Ecos has loads of different cleaning products in many different scents, and even have a free and clear option if you wish to avoid fragrance all together.

Between hand soap, all purpose cleaners, and even a green OXO Brite that is tough on stains of all kinds Ecos creates Earth and animal friendly products to clean everything. They even have pet shampoo.

The downside to Ecos is they also aren’t sold as easily in grocery stores like the other products. Though it’s probably worth it to purchase the products online because of how earth and animal friendly they are.

Green Cleaning Supplies

MicroFiber Cleaning Towels

I own these cleaning towels and they are pretty amazing. They make hand washing floors easier and leave the floors streak free no matter what cleaner I use.

Simply use them to clean any area of your home then toss them in with your regular laundry to wash them. They are super absorbent and can make it so you don’t even need to use paper towels.

How much money could you save getting rid of paper towels? I used to spend $17 a month on a big package of paper towels just so I could throw them in the trash.

While I still need paper towels (I have cats that get hairballs from time to time) I at least am only going through maybe one roll in a month. Now that $17 gives me a year worth of paper towel usage.

Nano Towels

I might be a bit old fashioned but it seems to me that cleaning with just water is probably not killing all the germs that could be hiding on our surfaces. However, the Nano Towel claims that it can clean almost anything with just water.

While it may not kill germs this product can help to reduce the amount of plastics and money you spend on cleaning products. I use it to clean our windows and stainless steel. The best part is I don’t need harsh chemicals to clean these things.

Twist Loofah Sponges

I love Twist loofah sponges for cleaning. First, they are made out of plants. Second, they are 100% biodegradable. Finally, the naked sponge is dishwasher safe for easy sanitation and prolonged use.

The only downfall to the Twist sponges is they are a bit more expensive than traditional sponges. Though they don’t need to be replaced as often either so you might actually be breaking even with them.

Green Cleaning Products – Make Your Own

When it comes to green cleaning sometimes the best things you can do is make your own cleaning products. While sometimes you will need a Castile soap or Borax to make a cleaning product simple things like using baking soda alone works too.

Below I am featuring some all natural products you can make with ingredients in your home to save you time and give you control over the products you are using in your home.

Green Cleaning Products For The Home

My family and I have made the switch to green cleaning products and in that switch we have also tried to make sure that we reduce the amount of plastics we use. Almost everything we buy is wrapped in plastic and reducing that waste can be a bit difficult.

I recommend going with products who have refill options this way you can either reuse the original plastic bottle or you can buy glass bottles to reuse over and over again. Using a glass bottle for your dish soap, your all purpose spray, and your glass cleaner means less plastic ends up in our oceans poisoning us all.

Waste is a huge problem in our society no matter where your beliefs are on climate change. That waste is costly to the planet and to your pocket book. Stop wasting money on products that cause more waste and spend less overall on products that can be reused.
