RedditI love dreaming about decorating my home office. So much so I thought it fitting to do a Snag This Look: Home Office edition. I went searching through Pinterest to find a home office that was stylish, productive, and maybe slightly girly. This industrial home office showed up in the stream.
When I came across this Industrial styled office I thought it is the perfect office to mimic. The wood and steel give the office a clean look while the soft fluffy rug, plant, and chair offer a bit of a girly touch to the masculinity of the desk and shelves.
As with all the Snag this Look posts the goal is to mimic not copy. There are differences between the original and my version. When you go to recreate this look take a look at some of the other options I give to create your own unique look.
As always let’s take a good look at this industrial home office decor.
Industrial Home Office
For a few variations try a lighter grey-blue paint on the wall. It lightens up the space and brings a bit more of a girly touch. You want to personalize the shelves to fit more of your personality. Add some printable art, little succulents, or pictures of your family or friends.
When it comes to the chair my recommendation is check all the reviews before buying the chair. However, after trying and buying several different chairs I know typically which brand I like best. Likewise, do yourself a favor and spend some money on a good office chair.
Cheap office chairs lead to posture problems, increased tiredness, and back pain. To avoid these, especially if you plan on spending lots of time in the chair, invest in a good chair.
Time to create our industrial home office.
Industrial Home Office Desk
I searched for a desk like this, unfortunately the reviews I found were not good. Instead of trying to make due, I decided to go with something a little more expensive with the benefit of lasting a long time and sturdiness.
We are going to build our desk. I found these well reviewed hairpin table legs to start with.
According to the questions and answers section they hold well over 200 lbs. For a desk this should be plenty of support. You can get two different kinds of finish. A flat black and a clear coat on the steel.
The tabletop for our desk weighs 18 lbs and is about 48’’ wide and 24’’ in depth. This gives you plenty of space on top of the table for monitor or any decor you’d like to add.
Additionally, this table top is stainable so choose a stain you would like. Make sure to have coasters on your desk to keep from ruining your stain.

Industrial Home Office Shelving
Again I went on the search for some decent shelving. However, the shelving units I found were all only 31 inches wide. To get close to this look you are going to need something wider. If 31 inches works for you, you can see all the search results here.
If you want something more true to this office there are a couple of ways you can DIY this. We all love DIY that’s easy. Get yourself some pipes like this.
These pipes are 12 inches in depth so you can easily fit a shelf size piece of wood on them to create this look. Now you can buy them through Amazon with the link above or you can go down to your local hardware store and they should be able to help you there.
If you get a 12’’ in depth piece of wood stain it to match your desk exactly. Pam from House of Hawthornes wrote a blog post about DIY Industrial Shelving that offers a lot of help when creating these shelves.
Desk Chair
Like i stated previously if you intend on sitting at your desk for extended periods of time you want to make sure your chair is comfortable and offers plenty of support. There are a lot of Office Chairs to choose from but I’ve narrowed them down based on reviews to only the best of the best. Check out the search results here.
I’m recommending this Modway Push Midback Office Chair. It’s not ridiculously expensive, however gives a lot for it’s value. I have personally sat in this chair and plan to buy it myself when I finally make over my office space. It is comfortable soft but supportive and sturdy. The reviews are good as well.
Industrial Home Office Rug
So I found a rug that is extremely close to the original, fluffy and wonderfully designed. It comes in three different sizes and will look wonderful in the industrial home office we are creating.
Industrial Home Office Decor
While I’ve picked pieces that will look fantastic in your office you may want to check out vintage shops near you to pick up unique pieces to decorate your shelves. These pieces should portray your personality in a unique way.
If you are a photographer find vintage camera’s. Find some vintage radio’s if you are a podcaster. Beauty and fashion could mean picking up vintage mirrors. Whatever your passion find a vintage or industrial object you can display on your shelves to match it.

Industrial Trunk
Place this trunk under your shelving to store files or paperwork away and keep clutter off your desktop and out of sight. I don’t recommend using the trunk as extra seating however it will make for a wonderful accent piece in your office.
Industrial Book Rack
Use this pipe book rack to hold books on your shelves. Instead of traditional bookends the pipe is a great way to continue the industrial feel of the room.
The rustic lantern I feature in Must have Rustic Decor Items will also look great on your shelving.
Desk Accessories
These glass jars can hold all the little things every desk needs while still keeping with the industrial feel. The glass brings a touch of softness to the room.
No desk would be complete without a pencil and pen holder. Complementing the legs of your desk perfectly the steel look sticks with the industrial feel of the office.
Drapes
Soften up your office by adding these sheers to your window. For the right blend of industrial with a touch of girly these sheers help to complete the look.
Add some flowers, a bamboo plant, or some greenery in the room to soften all the industrial accents and add that flair to your new home office.
