It’s 10 am and you suddenly feel weak and unable to concentrate when it dawns on you that you skipped breakfast … again. Well not anymore, I am teaching you how to meal prep an entire month of smoothies in less than 20 minutes.

This happens a lot to me. I get my coffee, feed my kid, sit down to get started on work and lose track of time. It happens to the best of us.

Back when I used to leave my house for work I didn’t have the time in the morning to cut up all my fruit to prepare my smoothie. But a smoothie was the healthiest and easiest breakfast I could eat when I was on the go.

So instead, I started prepping my smoothies ahead a time so all I had to do is just add milk and blend. It made my mornings easy and was so much healthier than a drive through breakfast sandwich or bagel.

Can You Meal Prep Smoothies

Absolutely! You can use fresh or frozen fruits galore. If you are adding any leafy vegetables like spinach or kale I recommend cooking them in boiling water for a few seconds and drying before freezing. This keeps them fresh in the freezer for months at a time.

Basically, it’s creating a bunch of frozen smoothie packs. I personally already use frozen fruit for this but you can slice up and freeze other fresh fruits like mango, strawberries, bananas, and more.

Smoothie Recipes With Frozen Fruit and Milk

I use almond milk for my smoothies, but you can use dairy milk, soy milk, or any type of milk you prefer. A homemade oat milk works well for smoothies too while giving you a bit of extra fiber to make you feel fuller longer.

Also when you are prepping your smoothie bags you will not be blending before hand. It adds an unnecessary step in the process and makes for more clean up.

I highly recommend having a high powered blender. I use the Blendtec because it powers through everything. I’ve used this to create sauces, frozen smoothies, and vegan “cheese” sauces with cashews. It powers through everything.

Meal Prep Smoothies For A Month

Below are my top 5 favorite smoothie bags. You will need bags to prep the smoothies in. While normal sandwich bags are initially cheaper they aren’t exactly environmentally friendly.

I recommend taking a little bit of money each month to invest in these reusable bags that you can easily wash while keeping plastic out of our oceans.

You will also need a large bag of frozen strawberries and a large bag of a tropical mix. If your local grocery store doesn’t have the large bag of tropical mix get smaller bags of pineapple, peach, and mango.

Get a couple of bunches of banana, I prefer fresh but if you want to you can use frozen. You will also need a 3-4 avocados cut in half and sliced.

You will also need prepared spinach. Cook the spinach in boiling water for about 30 seconds and dark green and scoop out onto a paper towel to soak up extra water. Ball up into grape size individual balls.

If you want to you can mix all of your uncooked spinach with a bit of apple juice or water in the blender until all the bits are pulverized. Then pour into ice cube trays to freeze. This takes a little bit longer but it also makes sure that all the spinach blends into your smoothie for the ultimate in smoothness.

How To Meal Prep Smoothies

Below are some of my favorite smoothies to prep. My theory is bananas go with most of every type of fruit and you will never taste spinach in your smoothie. These two items are musts. After that mix your fruits as you see fit. There are loads of combinations that taste great together.

Strawberry & Banana

  • Half a banana
  • 5 – 6 Whole Strawberries

Add all ingredients to a bag, squeeze out the air, seal and freeze.

This is a great smoothie for a snack as it’s not filled with loads of things. You get a serving of fruit in and fill up easily until meal time.

Tropical Spinach Smoothie

  • A frozen slice of peach
  • 3-4 Cubes of mango
  • 3-4 Cubes of pineapple
  • 2 Spinach Balls
  • Half a banana

Add all ingredients to a bag, squeeze out the air, seal and freeze.

This is a great way to add vegetables to your picky eaters diet.

Berry Tropical Smoothie

  • 5-6 Strawberries
  • 3-4 Cubes of mango
  • 3-4 Cubes of pineapple
  • Half a banana

Add all ingredients to a bag, squeeze out the air, seal and freeze.

This smoothie tastes like a pina colada.

Tropical Avocado Smoothie

  • 3-4 Cubes of mango
  • 3-4 Cubes of pineapple
  • 3-4 Strawberries
  • Half a banana
  • Half an avocado

Add all ingredients to a bag, squeeze out the air, seal and freeze.

This is a great way to add healthy fats to your diet or if you have a picky eater who might need the fat.

Berry Pineapple Tropical Smoothie

  • 5-6 Strawberries
  • 4-5 cubes of pineapple
  • A Whole banana

Add all ingredients to a bag, squeeze out the air, seal and freeze.

This is a fresh tropical smoothie that works well as a snack.

How To Prepare Smoothies

When you are ready to prepare the smoothies you simply pull out your desired smoothie bag and your milk of choice. I personally also add a vanilla flavored plant based protein powder like this one to my smoothies.

It’s a way for me to get a little extra protein in my diet and in my kids diet since he is such a picky eater. If your kid is a picky eater – but likes smoothies – and needs the extra protein in their diet I highly recommend adding a protein powder to your smoothies.

Little Girl Drinking A Smoothie

You’ll pour a cup and a half of milk into your blender (2 cups if you are splitting the smoothie with your kid.) Then add the fruit and any protein powder. Blend for 30-45 seconds or until completely smooth.

Pour into glasses and enjoy.

Frozen Fruit Smoothie Recipe

To make the creamiest frozen fruit smoothies you will need a high speed blender. I personally love my Blendtec.

Creating frozen smoothie packs for the month gives you breakfasts or snacks that are quick and easy. Get a full serving of fruits and if needed veggies so you can have a sweet and healthy treat.

I recommend preparing 2 weeks to a month worth of smoothies in one sitting. It will save on your food bill and makes for a fast snack or meal. Smoothies are perfect for breakfast or lunch.
