RedditI’ve always been attracted to modern decor. I like a clean look that embraces the white space in our rooms. While these days I’m going for more of a transitional look there are still very modern features to the way I decorate my home.
I like the crisp lines of a geometric or square table. I like to use clean colors like white, grey and black in decorating. When I use colors I prefer bright accents or statement pieces of one color.
Modern decor is easy to pull off with loads of affordable options. It’s a great decor option for people who want a clean but comfortable living room.
Modern Decor Is Versatile
Gone are the days when modern decor looked minimalist, sleek, and filled with bad 80’s plastic lines. Modern decor these days has taken on a more contemporary approach by adding soft accents in fabrics.
The fact is you can mix modern decor with almost any other style. You can still have that clean and sleek look while embracing the softer and more unique styles of farmhouse, bohemian, or transitional decor.
Modern Decor Can Be Fun
While typically with modern decor we look to the white, grey, and black decor options, modern decor can bring out a whole slew of fun colors.
Be it small accents in pillows and throws or entire walls painted in a holographic style. Color now plays an important roll in modern decor.

While modern decor is typically minimalist that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun and style. Use clean patterns and shapes like the ones in the room above.
The geometric pattern in the rug adds a uniqueness to the room and adds a great modern touch to the room. Without that pattern in the rug the room would actually be a bit bland. The rug ties the whole room together nicely.
Add Some Green
There is one thing that will always make modern decor feel more comfortable and homey – plants. A big green plant in a room can immediately soften the crisp and clean lines of a modern living room while adding a splash of color.
Add A Big Statement Piece
A big statement piece can be all that needs to tie a room together and finish off the modern look. In the photo above you see the large piece of modern style art work. The black in the art work matches with the black in the coffee table.
It draws the eye up and breaks up the neutral tones in the room. It adds an interesting break in the room and brings it’s own unique style to the room.
Do Something Fun
A holographic color paint job in your room can add a unique and colorful approach to modern decor. Pairing it with clean lines and a colorful geometric rug really brings out the modern style of the decor.
Modern decor can lend well to a more eclectic style with a bunch of different colors. Mix and match different colors and patterns in chairs and pillows but makes sure the furniture is a more modern style.
Add Earthy Finishes
Adding woven fabrics and wood tones to your modern decor can add the right earthy touch to make the room feel more comfortable and homey. They earthy touches can soften the hard edges and grey and black color palettes of modern decor.
Keep It Clean
A navy and white color palette paired with a blue grey wall and geometric patterns is a clean look and very modern look for your home. In the room above the wire coffee tables paired with the white sofa is the perfect modern look.
Adding the navy blue in the pillows, curtains, an rug ties the whole room together and leaves it looking clean. It also lends well to the minimalist lifestyle without sacrificing style.

Modern home decor can have flairs of many different home decor styles. Keeping any decor on the minimalist side and picking furniture that is clean with crisp lines you can have a modern version of almost any decor.
As you see in the examples above modern decor doesn’t have to be cold. You can easily warm it up with a few soft or colorful touches to make the room feel comfortable.
